About the Artist
I have always been in love with nature, finding peace and inspiration in its solitude. I am also intrigued by people, laughter, cities, architecture, and the vibrant buzz of urban environments. However, it is in moments of solitude that I think deeply about design and create visions of paintings in my mind.
I strive to create a visual energy within my work. My surroundings excite me. My world is composed of movement, light, feelings, and thoughts. My intention is to manifest this excitement in my work through basic design elements with an emphasis on direction and repetition. Even a still moment hums with energy.
Since graduating from the York Academy of Arts, I've worked in production silk screening, been an illustrator for the York County Board of Parks, and produced jewelry and inlaid colored porcelain, all the while painting in various mediums. In 2005 I started working in encaustic and found it to be highly adaptable. The finished work appears to be two dimensional while it is actually sculptural in its construction, giving it a depth unmatched by other techniques. Today most of my work is encaustic and often includes other elements.
